![]() ![]() ![]() In this state then a Pi acting as pure streamer and not being used for anything else then I think it is as good as any other streamer on the market. I would qualify this by saying very strongly that the Pi needs to be powered by a very good quality LPSU which is often three times the cost of the Pi but it is essential. When any unit is used as a pure streamer and just sends the music to your own system through your own off board DAC I have found there is no real difference between streamers. I would like to hear in my own system something more exotic but frankly it would be a waste as even if it proved to be hugely better I would still not have the money to spend on it. But I have heard a Linn and a Naim plus a Marantz and Lumin. I have not heard many units as pure streamers that is not using the internal DAC. I was not going to add this as it not a view shared by many on here but it is my honest view. I would say that you can run LMS on a 2Gb or 4GB Pi 4 and have no problems I get told that using the 8GB is overkill but what you do get is instant response time and very smooth transition from one thing to another which gives along with Material Skin a very smooth and professional feel to the product. ![]() There have been occasional bumps in the road and very few frustrating days but in general it just works. I guess if I commuted on a train or some such it might be useful but I will delete the app for the moment.Ĭlick to expand.Yes I have been using a Pi to run LMS for over ten years now starting with the original Pi A then B and right up to the Pi 4 8GB unit I use now. I listen to my music library at home but only Radio 3 or 4 in the car. I was starting to go through the troubleshooting process but then wondered why I was bothering. The requirement for an unlimited mobile data contract is not an issue and nor is the need to have my server/Roon core running 24/7 because I have that running anyway (as well as my DAC because I think repeated power off/on cycles are more harmful to electronics) but so far I have failed to get Roon ARC to function outside my home network. Following on from the thread where the success of the sound of the Grimm MU1 using Roon was discussed I am on a bit of a private mission to see if I can get Roon on my K50 sounding as good as LMS/Squeezelite (almost there by doing a few other things as well as following the Grimm recommendations for Roon settings/disabling features) and so of course I upgraded to Roon 2.0 and downloaded the Roon ARC app. ![]()
